Italy and Costa Rica, 160 Years of History and Diplomatic Cooperation.

The Italian Embassy is honored to invite the public to the inauguration of the Photographic and Documentary Exhibition entitled “160 Years of Relations between Italy and Costa Rica”, which will take place on March 6, 2025, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the National Library of Costa Rica.

This special event commemorates the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is a selection of images and documents that narrate the history, the culture and the bonds of cooperation between these two countries.

It will remain open to the public until March 31, 2025. A complimentary cocktail will be served after the inauguration. To participate, please RSVP by sending an email to [email protected].

Commemorated with a Special Postal Stamp

As part of this historic celebration, a commemorative postmark was issued on November 22, 2024, highlighting the importance of this moment in diplomatic history.

Thanks to a collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship and Correos de Costa Rica, the Foreign Minister Dr. Arnoldo André and the general manager, Mauricio Rojas Cartín, carried out the official postmarking in the presence of the Italian ambassador to Costa Rica, Alberto Colella, and the Costa Rican ambassador to Italy, Istvan Alfaro, who promoted the initiative.

During the event, the importance of postal services in the digital age was highlighted. Ambassador Alberto Colella mentioned that in Italy financial institutions continue to rely on postal services for their operations. For his part, the Costa Rican ambassador to Italy, Istvan Alfaro, expressed his gratitude to the institutions involved in making this initiative a reality.

Diseño del Sello Conmemorativo

The stamp was designed by graphic artists from Correos de Costa Rica and depicts the Church of San Vito de Coto Brus. It also includes a stamp from the Buenaventura Corrales School and another stamp with the Coat of Arms of Costa Rica.
